These days, one of José José's most visible means of giving back to his beloved Hispanic community is in his role as AARP spokesperson. It's a role he clearly relishes, and one that has been a smashing success thus far. Last fall, the singer was swamped with well-wishers when he appeared in an East Los Angeles parade. And fans-both Hispanic and non-Hispanic, eager for the singer's autograph-nearly crushed the AARP Segunda Juventud booth at the AARP Annual Member Event in San Diego. "It's great to meet with the people and be near them. I really want to spread the word in the community about what a marvelous organization AARP is," says the singer. José José is especially thrilled for the opportunity to speak in Spanish on behalf of AARP. He notes, "A lot of times, even people who have been here many years, still don't speak English. People need to know what they can do with their money, how they can be healthy and useful when they retire. AARP can help them have a terrific life after 50." |
